The Outrageous 19th - Clubhouse

THE PRACTICE GROUND

This is a popular part of the course widely used by all members and presided over by our professional, Rusty Crack, and her capable team of assistant pros.

All types of problems can be cured with systematic practice, a few hours with a pro can give you years of pleasure on the course trying out the new techniques you learnt.

It is said that some of the best holes on the course are laid out behind the clubhouse. There are those members who can't get enough and find the all night sessions, getting in those extra strokes, a real bonus.

The addition of floodlights, now means that members can pound away into the night without losing sight of their balls. Training sessions are also being extended, so you can come directly from work and be sure of a one to one.

Let the pros straighten you out, don't worry that you have not had time to change, or your equipment may be in need of a little lick round, they are used to handling second hand tools. The practice area attendance will not come down on you too hard and in fact are always happy to come up with a cheesy grin.

Master Stroke

DON’T FORGET…. A bad golfer always blames his lay, sometimes the hole, but never his own inadequate equipment

MONTHLY TIPS

GETTING THROUGH A THICK BUSH

You may find that in the normal course of play you encounter many different lays, this is especially true if you regularly play away. Many fairways abroad are not so manicured as you are used to, tufts often sprout around the hollows and pits. This rustic look can extend right up to the fringe. Here are a few ways of coping with a overgrown thatch.

1. When playing through thick undergrowth, make firmer strokes than normal using a chopping thrust.

2. Only commit your full stroke once you have eased yourself into position. Too early and you can get entangled, damaging the head and ipping out great tufts in the process.

3. Where your balls have become snagged in a matted lay, try to extract yourself very carefully. Cautiously examine the area by prodding around with your finger, be brave give it a sniff. This can tell you if there is any decaying matter or debris that would cause you to have second thoughts on the wisdom of playing the hole and protecting your equipment.

4. Always clean your equipment after poking about in the rough.

DON’T FORGET…. If the early bird catches the worm and the best golf is played at sunrise, is it best to get up the same time as your cock?

MASTER STROKE Being able to get the feel of the player you are handling is the first step in a good teacher student relationship. The next stage is really try and get inside them
